Yoga and the Writig Muse
Let
your writing breathe, as your
body flows.
An original therapeutic
journaling process to access your creative juices through deepening your
body awareness in gentle and empowering Yoga class. Beginners & non-writers
welcome.
This
creative and healing workshop allows voices in the body to speak through gentle
and empowering Yoga and a timed writing exercise. Align different body parts
with the intellect, the emotions and the Spirit, while tapping into your
instinctive, personal expression.
Beginners and non-writers welcome .Se habla
Espanol y Frances. Fluency in Spanish and French.
This
class involves a writing exercise immediately following a simple stretching
session, which may build up a sweat. This is followed by a period of guided
visualization. The instructor, Bea Ammidown, then suggests a
theme and sends everyone off to write. Sharing is optional, no criticism of the works
is allowed.
Ammidown developed the yoga and writing class
in 1999 with one of her students, Chana Bell, a learning disability instructor
with Santa Monica schools who also writes poetry.
"I
think it's an exciting concept. You're literally writing from the body instead
of disembodied from your mind," Bell says. "I think the writing can
be much richer."
Ammidown says she is "opening up the
writing space" rather than teaching writing. She compares the class to a
support group.
The
Wellness Community thanks you wholeheartedly for the Yoga and Writing for
Wellness class; we found the combination of writing and gentle Yoga especially
wonderful as we tapped into our creative expression as part of the fight for
recovery.
