UCLArts and Healing expands awareness and availability of arts-based tools for healing by offering referral services to the community.  In addition to recommending presenters for events, we can also collaborate directly with the requesting group.

In 2009, UCLArts and Healing delivered several training programs to the entire staff of the Boys and Girls Club of East Los Angeles in the use of arts-based activities for social-emotional development and channeling youthful energy in constructive ways:

  • Movement-based activities for children with developmental disabilities
  • Movement-based activities for teens
  • Movement- and theater-based activities for building focus, bridging differences, identifying feelings, and opening dialogue
  • Drumming-based Beat the Odds program described under "Training" & "Research" on this website.

UCLArts and Healing also offered an interactive family program in Beat the Odds drumming for the Venice Family Clinic, the largest free clinic in the nation.

In 2007 and 2008, UCLArts and Healing offered weekly experiential programs in arts and healing for UCLA Medical Center patients and their families at UCLA Tiverton House Hotel.  The purpose of these programs was to provide opportunities for participants to find meaning in illness, empowerment, and support. The programs were evaluated and fine-tuned, resulting in a model that can be exported to other medical settings.
